Useof rewards in testing students
Thisis an observational study where an experiment was carried out tocause-effects reactions from different groups of students. Thisexperiment involved students undergoing an assessment test with someof them promised a reward. The intention was to determine how resultswere influenced by rewarding some of the sample students. In additionthe experiment was also aimed to determine the variable of interestswithout necessarily influencing those response variables. Hence thetested students were forced in some impose treatments by rewardingsome participants to accurately observe the response variables andcome up with convincing data as the final result.
Stratifiedsampling probability method was employed during this experiment tocome up with the final subjects. This was achieved by dividing thestudy student population into two main groups the senor students andthe freshmen students. Thereafter the students in different stratawere randomly selected to come up with the final student subjectsthat would participate in the experiment. In this regard theserandomly selected students are supposed to be proportionate in numberfrom both strata. However during the study there were problems ofnon-responses from most students.
Henceit was essential to come up with effective accounting methods tomeasure the level of non-responses from the beginning and during theexperiment. This was essential as some sample student membersexhibited different levels of response propensities throughout theexperiment. This was accurately observed and determined byobservation of this critical data. The two participants that wererewarded during the experiment were Anna Catherine Cook and CarmenAudree Woodruff. The participating student who did not get any rewardwas Katie Lauren Marshall Feldstein.

The first treatmentemployed was the use of the placebo treatment that was aimed to givean explanation for the placebo effect. In this experiment the rewardsthat were given to some sample students did not in reality depend onthe treatment effect. Hence as a result these sample students did inreality affect their effectiveness during the experiment after beenawarded. In addition the experiment employed the randomized blocktreatment design because of the differences in natural abilities ofthe sample student members.. In this regard there were two finalgroups of individuals in the second test who were randomly assignedto this treatment design.

Theresults obtained from the above experiment indicated that the samplestudents who were assigned to the placebo treatment had greater andhigher scores than the other sample student. This could be as resultof the psychological effects in the use of rewards during theexperiment. In this regard the use of rewards could have motivatedthe sample students to effectively try and achieve better and topresults. However as noted, is the fact that rewards have nosignificant effect in improving the ability of students getting goodresults. This demonstrated in the results where the sample studentwho was not rewarded was not far behind in the first experiment butwas in the second place after the second experiment. Therefore itcould be correct to state that the results that were obtainedinvolved individual capacity rather than externally imposed factors.

The use of placebo and blind treatment for instance hascontributed to major success in the healthcare system mostparticularly the psychosis and drug related problems. Thesetreatments are important in determining and eliminating existingvariables that may contribute to wrong assessments. Therefore it isvery crucial to deliberately employ variation in the subjects ofexperiments by using different types of treatments to acquire avariety of results. This is helpful as the best results are indicatedat the end of the experiments and hence solutions to real worldproblems.
