Inthe contemporary world, the use of the internet has intensified withmany families having unlimited connections to diverse onlineplatforms. As a result, children can access the internet at an earlyage. The study shows that kids have online exposure as early as age2. By age 5, about 90% can play online games through a tablet orother devices (Jurgenson, 2012). The internet gives people anexposure as well as connections with friends through the socialwebsites. By discussing the issue of the internet and children, thepaper will illustrate that kids get smarter or more sociable becauseof using the internet.

Childrenget smarter because of using the internet. The first thing thatchildren access at a tender age is the online games. The online gamesgive a child the comprehension skill (Jurgenson, 2012). That childneeds to remember the rules of the game and the way it should beplayed. While learning how to play various games without confusion, achild gets to distinguish one thing from the other without theconfusion. Such kids apply the same skill in school, and they tend toacquire the math concept faster than those who do not play onlinegames (Howard et al, 2011). These children can calculate moves toknow the best step to take.

Asthe children grow, they get to access the information through theinternet. The information gives them good reading and writing skills(Mason, 2012). They get to know how to articulate information.Besides, they get to be fluent in the language use. Such kids aregood in both written and spoken language. As they imitate thebloggers and other information reporters, they become smarter thanothers (Howard et al, 2011). Apart from the writing skills, thosechildren are exposed to the current news. They are aware of what ishappening around the world and can relate it to the theory studied inthe classroom.

Childrenwith the access to cartoon films and other films get very creative(Howard et al, 2011). They get exposure to various story lines andcan relate their thinking to the characters they have watched.Despite the challenges associated with some of the informationonline, some information is very essential to the child`s creativeskills (Jurgenson, 2012). The children with the exposure to variousfilms and videos are very creative when writing the compositions.They have an exposure of creating conflicts and solving the conflict.They understand how to build a story systematically without mixingthe scenes. Sometimes they transfer what they have seen directly tothe books.

Thechildren who watch movies online also tend to acquire some behaviors.The children`s films always have a lesson to learn. As they access,the punishment given to the bad character, they desire to behave likethe good characters so that they get rewarded (Jurgenson, 2012). As aresult, the films help in building the character of the children.However, there is a small percentage that emulates the bad character.However, in most cases the children admire the real characters thatthey follow with the expectation of getting the proper rewards. Theyend up talking about them, eating like them, walking like them andmaking decisions like them.

Throughthe constant use of the internet, children know how to source forinformation on the internet and the books (Mason, 2012). The learningprocess involves the learning in the classroom with the teacher aswell as searching for more information from the books and theinternet. The children acquire the curiosity to know whether the sameinformation in class can also be found on the internet or otherbooks. As a result, they get the exposure to more information thanthey acquire in class. Such children are good in the research as theyare used to finding more information on the internet as well as theonline books.

Thechildren become independent in studying, and it is a benefit to theslow learners who do not get the first-hand information from theteacher (Mason, 2012). The children may also come across someinformation before the classroom lessons and that way when theteacher elaborates it they understand better. That way the childrenperform well as they acquire the information faster than they wouldget it was them depending on the classroom studies. The informationon the internet is faster and readily available (Mason, 2012). Thatway, the child does not strain to source for the information as theydo not require perusing through volumes of books in a library, whichwould be tiresome. The internet availability all the time andanywhere makes the accessibility efficient. That way the children arenot lazy to access it. Sometimes, they access the internet for fun,but end up getting educated.

Theinternet makes children connected to others as well as making newfriends (Howard et al, 2011). Through the social websites, childrencan chat with others comfortably. The chatting makes them getconnected to the old friends. In the process, they also make a newfriend with children with whom it is difficult to meet physically.That way the children become social and are not afraid of makingfriends with those people they meet. On having friends from differentplaces, they can exchange information about their home area. Thechildren get to know about various regions where they have never gonebefore (Howard et al, 2011). That way, children can think beyondtheir home location and have an imagination of better places as wellas worse places.

Onthe socializing and having new friends, research shows that there aresome risks involved. The children can get sexually assaulted byadults and other strangers who use the internet to trap their baits(Howard et al, 2011). They toss the minds of the children to trapthem. However, despite the fear of misinformation and the risksinvolved with online exposure, the parents should warn them about therisks involved in the internet use. That way the children will getfree with their parents and inform them of any challenges they faceas they interact with others. However, some children get addicted tothe internet such that a parent has to raise voice to make them dosomething else (Mason, 2012).

Inconclusion, the access to the internet makes children smarter andmore sociable. The use of internet helps them develop thecomprehension skills, cognitive skills, creativity, fluency andability to get self-independent in learning. The children who use theinternet often perform better than others in the exams. They alsomake friends in the field faster than others as they want to have awider chatting team. As they emulate the good characters in thefilms, they become disciplined and make the work easier for theteachers and the parents. The risks and challenges associated withthe children online exposure can be handled. Therefore, thetechnological expansion has brought a smarter generation.
