Everyorganization or a field of profession exists to pursue a specificvision. A vision statement communicates the specific goals that arepursued by members of a given profession or the organization. A welldefined vision serves as a unifying force that aligns the efforts ofall members of a given profession, which in turn enhances theirefficiency at work (Martin, McCormack &amp Spirig, 2014). The visionstatement to be considered in this paper is: To be a true member ofthe community of registered nurses in order to providepatient-centered care that is supported by the evidence-basedpractices and leverage modern technology as well as interdisciplinarycollaboration so as to meet the level of quality that is desired bypatients. The paper will focus on the key concepts of the vision,evaluation of the vision, and impact of the vision on the nursingprofession.

Keyconcepts in the vision

Thevision statement “To be a true member of the community ofregistered nurses in order to provide patient-centered care that issupported by the evidence-based practices and leverage moderntechnology as well as interdisciplinary collaboration so as to meetthe level of quality that is desired by patients” contains fourmajor concepts that are critical to the modern nursing practices. Thefirst concept is the patient-centered care, which is a practice ofoffering health care services that respect and respond topreferences, values, needs of individual patients, and ensuring thatthe all clinical decisions are guided by values held by individualpatients (Epstein &amp Street, 2011). Patient-centered care iscritical in the modern society given that the community diversity interms of religion, race, and culture has been increasing with time.Therefore, healthcare needs to be tailored in a manner that respectsthe values and preferences of each patient, instead of offeringstandard care.

Thesecond concept is evidence-based practices, which refers to theintegration of clinical expertise that is supported by clinicalevidence obtained through systematic researcher. The application ofevidence-based practices is associated with enhanced efficiency ofnurses since their practices are based on proven and well researchedapproaches (Stevens, 2013). In addition, this leads to bettertreatment outcome. Information obtained from systematic researchenhances the nurses’ confidence since the information is valid.

Third,the concept of modern technology has been gaining significance withtime. Applying the modern technology in nursing practice increasesefficiency in service delivery, enhance the quality of care, and helpnurses reduce the cost of care (Huston, 2013). Therefore, the moderntechnology helps nurses deliver quality of care that is desired bypatients and enhance the satisfaction of their clients.

Fourth,the concept of interdisciplinary collaboration refers to a scenarioin which, nurses work together with other nurse professionals andhealth care providers from other departments. This results in a poolof knowledge and skills, which in turn enhances the level of qualityof care that is delivered to patients. An effective collaboration ofnurses with other professionals enhances patient safety and treatmentoutcome (Okoronkwo, Anieche &amp Ndu, 2013). A combination of thefour concepts in one nursing vision implies that the nursingprofession will ensure that patients receive quality health care andhelp nurses deliver care more efficiently.

Evaluationof the nursing vision

Thevision created in this paper has the elements of common purpose,nurses’ motivation, and collaboration. By term “community ofnurses” creates the sense of oneness among registered nurses, whichis a call for all nurses to pursue a common purpose of deliveringquality care to all patients by tailored health care services to thespecific needs of each patient (Epstein &amp Street, 2011). Allnurses get satisfaction when patients get the best treatment outcomefrom the services they deliver to them. To this end, the visioncreates an element of nurses’ motivation by calling upon them todeliver quality care by leveraging technology, which is a reliableapproach that gives a promise of quality care, patient satisfaction,and motivation of nurses (Huston, 2013). In addition, the visionemphasizes on the significance of collaboration among nurses and withother professionals, which is a reliable way of enhancing patientsafety as well as patient outcome (Okoronkwo, Anieche &amp Ndu,2013). The vision is quite comprehensive and would not require anychanges. This is because it contains all the key elements (includingthe evidence-based practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, moderntechnology, and patient-centered care) that are required in themodern health care settings.

Impactof the vision to the nursing profession

Thefunctions of nursing leaders are guided by the overall vision that isdesigned by their respective organizations and nursing professionalorganizations. According to Martin, McCormack &amp Spirig (2014) avision provide meaning and orientation for the nursing leaders aswell as their teams. This helps them to engage and focus theirenergies in transforming nursing practices. The vision created inthis paper can impact the nursing profession in several ways. First,the vision emphasizes on the use of evidence-based practices, whichwill help nurses use patient care methods that have been proventhrough empirical studies, and stop using trial and error methods(Epstein &amp Street, 2011). For example, research will result inthe discovery of less invasive methods of handling the blood pressurepatients. Secondly, the vision emphasizes patient-centered care,which will impact the nursing profession by ensuring that all nursingservices are geared towards maximizing the satisfaction of nurses(Epstein &amp Street, 2011). Therefore, the vision will help nursesunderstand that they exist to serve the interests of patients andpatients’ satisfaction is the only measure of their relevance inthe field of nursing.

Theimplementation of the vision will take five major steps. The firststep will involve communicating the vision to other nurses in orderto elicit their support by showing them the benefits of adopting thevision. Secondly, roles as well as responsibilities will be assignedto individuals. The third step will involve setting of metrics thatwill be used to measure the success of the implementation of thevision, which include the change rate of patient satisfaction,nurses’ satisfaction, and efficiency in service delivery. Thefourth step will involve the actual implementation of the provisions(such as the use of empirical data to make decisions, creatingplatforms and meetings for collaboration, and purchasingtechnological devices) of the nursing vision. Fifth, the success ofthe process of the implementing the vision will be evaluated in orderto make the necessary adjustments.

Conclusion

Thevision “To be a true member of the community of registered nursesin order to provide patient-centered care that is supported by theevidence-based practices and leverage modern technology as well asinterdisciplinary collaboration so as to meet the level of qualitythat is desired by patients” will impact the nursing profession byenhancing the quality of care, efficiency, and patient outcome. Thisis because the vision emphasizes on the significance of integratingevidence-based practices, modern technology, and patient-centeredcare into the nursing profession. The process of creating a visionfor the nursing profession was informative and increased my knowledgeon the significance of having a vision.
