Environmental issues of NorthCarolina

The fragileenvironment need forces the government or the people to come up witheffective programs that help safeguard it. To do this, governmentalagencies establish regulations and control, environmental agencies toimplement protective measures. These programs are important, especially to regions such as North Carolina that would streamlineall permit processes, monitor and evaluate the existing environmentalprograms. This paper will identify all environmental agencies and allkey players in North Carolina that are aimed at protecting andconserving the environment. It will also highlight all environmentalissues that are currently being debated in North Carolina and findout its costs and benefits. Finally, it will offer any alternativesolutions that will help curb environmental problems.

The UnitedState government that is most emphatically responsible for allenvironmental issues pertaining to the State of North Carolina isDepartment of Environmental Quality (The U.S Protection Agency,2012). The daily environmental operations of this agency are managedby the agency’s director and all activities supervised by the boardof the agency. This government agency is in-charge of responding toall environmental emergencies as well as educating the North Carolinapublic on issues regarding the environment (Department ofEnvironment, 2012). The agency encourages and educates environmentalenthusiast, especially students to engage more in learning, protecting and conserving the environment. In addition, the agencyalso works hard to come up with viable environmental issues as wellas advising the North Carolina legislators on the consequences of anyenvironmental issue.

Moreover, another leading stewardship, environmental agency in North Carolinais the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural resources(Breton, 2008). This agency is primarily responsible in protectingand preserving all the natural resources that are found in NorthCarolina. There are many offices that are located both at the coastas well as in the mountains is responsible for managing allregulations that are aimed at protecting environmental resources asthe water quality, air quality and North Carolina’s health issues. In addition, it is responsible for offering all technical assistanceto the farmers, businesses, the public and the government hold up anybehavior that is deemed fit in regards to the environment. There aremany environmental programs that are accessed at the agency’sfacilities as well as in all State’s public schools. In regards toprotecting the natural resources, the agency directs its activitiestowards protecting North Carolina’s wildlife, the fish and allwilderness areas (The U.S Protection Agency, 2012). Ultimately theagency ensures that there is availability of safe drinking water andtaking charge of North Carolina’s state parks to ensure that alloutdoor recreational activities of the general public are enjoyable.

There is anenvironmental body that is responsible in issuing permits as well asmonitoring the compliances of such permits and evaluating the waterquality of North Carolina. This agency is the Enforcement Agency forviolations and Underground Quality Regulation of the State (Breton,2008). This agency is composed of scientists and technical staff thatchecks and quantify the State’s water reservoirs that are eitherbelong to the local government or those that are publicly owned. Inaddition, the agency is responsible for ensuring that water istreated effectively through engaging in financial activities as wellas offering required technical aid (Byrnes, 2000). The scientists andthe hydrologists of this division agency usually catalog the NorthCarolina’s water supply. They carry out conservation programs thatmay sometimes be expensive and also plan out effective future plansof water related programs. They carry out all available necessarysteps to ensure that the water available in North Carolina is usableand most importantly safe.

The airquality in North Carolina is regulated by the division of airquality. This division often offers available technical assistancethat is aimed at enforcing and implementation of the federal andstate’s pollution standards in all industries that are in NorthCarolina (Breton, 2008). The division also engages in environmentalpreservation activities such as establishing the standards of ambientair quality and issuing of permits. There are many programs that areused to regulate and monitor the air quality to ensure that theenvironment is ultimately protected from any form of pollution(Breton, 2008). All the waste product from all industries are handledand disposed by this agency. This is all aimed to ensure that NorthCarolina is free from these hazards and most often solid wastes thatcould be stalling danger to the environment.

NorthCarolina has established a marine fisheries division that worksclosely with the Marine Fisheries commission to help govern shellfishing and all fishing activities. They are mostly located at thecoastal sides of North Carolina State to ensuring that there is asustainable and healthy marine resource Byrne, 2000). There are manyprograms that have been developed to ensure that this objective isreached, such as habitat restoration and protection, fisheriesresearch, public education and enforcement programs. This divisionalso engages with other divisions, especially from the mountains thatensure that there is a diverse system of natural resources in NorthCarolina. There are many natural resources that include lakes, trails, scenic and natural rivers among many recreational areas. Themost emphatically implemented natural conservation projects based inAsheboro are the Zoological Park (Department of Environment, 2012).This project usually has all representatives of various species fromdiverse plants and animals in enabling the project to run effectiveprograms. These programs typically help to preserve, conserve andprotect all endangered and often threatened animal and plant species.

The keyenvironmental players in North Carolina are the North CarolinaDepartment of Environment and its Natural Resources and Department ofEnvironmental Quality. The core business or operation of theseagencies is ensuring that the environment is protected and preserved, especially in North Carolina’s exceptional natural resources. Theorganizations’ offices are located both in the coastal andCarolina’s mountains. These offices monitor and evaluate allregulatory programs that have been set up to ensure that air andwater quality is protected as well as the general public health (TheU.S Protection Agency, 2012). Therefore, it offers any availabletechnical aid to various institutions such as the local government, the farmers, businesses and the general public. Moreover, there areeducational programs that have been developed this organization withan aim of educating the general public on the importance ofenvironmental protection and preservation.

There is agrounding of XL pipeline as the first order of business by thelegislator Mitch McConnell, who is also the senator’s majorityleader in North Carolina (Department of Environment, 2012). However, there are many arguments that have presented against this motion.First is the understanding that that there was a removal of a specialbudget provision that was intended to regulate and limit all landacquisitions along the parkways. North Carolina is faced with animportant task of restoring the legacy of parkway preservation aswell as North Carolina’s heritage that once made the state proud. In addition the North Carolina’s State Parkway is entitled to alasting protection from such encroachments. However, there is anenvironmental problem that puts all the parks at risk. This hasforced North Carolina’s governor Pat McCrery to support theenvironmental groups to restore these parks through effective fundingto ensure that there are protection and preservation of State parksfor the public to enjoy.

In additionthe general public in North Carolina is advocating and laying downactions that are geared towards protecting the coast and its environsfrom the attempts of drilling. Concerning this issue, theenvironmental organizations take some level of confidence in thecoastal communities and also in the beach so that they can helpprotect it from such risks (Breton, 2008). However, there are a lotof concerns to the polluting industries. This is because theseindustries already carved visible holes in the Clean Water Act byexposing close to 35,000 miles of North Carolina’s streams to therisks of pollution (Byrnes, 2000). In this regard, there are a lot ofcalls that are being made by both environmentalist and the generalpublic to help restore and implement all the laws that protects andconserves waters. Also in pollution there are many roadblocks thatare being set up by many companies that produce dirty energy. This isin contrast to many people from the State of North Carolina trying toembrace clean energy by adopting solar. For this reason there is aneed to advocate for such clean energy and abhor energy thatcompromises the environment.

Thedrilling practices are causing a lot of alarming risks to thewaterways that are often polluted as a result in North Carolina. Itis important to understand the significance of such waterways such asThe Deep River, Jordan Lake and Eno River for the people of NorthCarolina (Department of Environment, 2012). These water ways areused by the people to enhance activities such as swimming, kayakingand fishing. The half of the North Carolina population gets drinkingwater from the ground water. In addition to these water ways theexistence of the beers that have significant consequence to theenvironment are at risk because many die each year. It is importantto understand the contributions of these beers to the environmentthrough activities such as pollination in food plants such asstrawberries and almonds hence ultimately ensuring food supply ofpeople and also some animals such as dairy cattle hay production. Inthis regard, there is a need to advocate for beers protecting toensure that food supply is guaranteed.

Inconclusion the Environment of North Carolina has come up with lastingalternative environmental solutions. North Carolina has a lot ofpotential for utilizing all offshore wind than any other AtlanticState in United State. In addition, there are many high-classresearch institutions that are aimed at bringing out activities thatare environmental friendly. United States has also availed incentivesfor using green energy that puts more emphasis on the use of offshorewind as a source of energy (The U.S Protection Agency, 2012). TheObama administration has come up with programs that are aimed atcombating global warming in the United States. In this regard theleaders of North Carolina are tasked with coming up with effectivelegislatives that are aimed at tackling global warming. Workingtogether with president Obama’s administration to ensure that theenvironmental issues in North Carolina are protected and safe guidedas well as the future of its people is protected.
