Thereare several codes of ethics that guide health educators. The mostimportant code of ethics is SOPHE (Society for Public HealthEducation) code of ethics and AAHE (American Association for HealthEducation) codes of ethics. SOPHE code of the ethics was developed in1976, but has undergone several reviews and refining to enhanceprofessionalism among health educators. In the mid 1980s, a joincommittee of SOPHE and AAHE sought to establish a profession widecode of ethics. However, due to challenges that faced the committee,it was not possible to develop a unified code of conduct, which ledto the adopting of SOPHE code as a profession wide code of ethics.This proposal was rejected by AAHE board. This led to the developmentof an AAHE code of conduct in 1991. As a result, both SOPHE and AAHEcontinued to promote ethics among health educators. In the 1990s,there were numerous attempts to create a unified code of ethics inthe profession. In 1999, the unified code of ethics was adopted, andlater revised in 2011 (Capwell, 2011).

Basedon the analysis of the different codes of ethics, I would post SOPHEcode of ethics. The code of ethics is more comprehensive and dealswill all the ethical issues related to health education. Thisincludes the responsibility of health education professionals to thepublic, the profession and their employers. It also defines theresponsibility of health education professionals in research anddelivery of health care services. The code of ethics is also animportant aspect of the organization strategic plan. Although otherprofessional code of ethics are relevant and have positive impacts onthe profession, I have selected SOPHE code of ethics.
