This is the eighth in an 11 part series on The Twelve Days of Christmas, go here to read part one.
Today is the ninth day of Christmas, and my true love gave me nine ladies dancing.
Before I get to the “dancing ladies,” I want to talk more about the Twelfth Night cakes.
This time we’ll visit Italy. The Italians are far simpler than other countries with their cake. They bake a focaccia bread. Three white beans are placed inside and one black. The white represent the Magi, and the black the King. Whoever gets the black bean is King for the evening and has the privilege of selecting his Queen.
The “nine ladies dancing” represent the Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (the red is from the 1599 Geneva Bible, blue from New American Standard Bible) :
- Love Love
- Joy Joy
- Peace Peace
- Longsuffering Patience
- Gentleness Kindness
- Goodness Goodness
- Faith Faithfulness
- Meekness Gentleness
- Temperancy Self-Control
