Good Evening Dear Readers!
I know I was out most of last week. Battling bronchitis for going on three weeks combined with my neck issues has knocked me down. Last week I had two doctor appointments and a physical therapy appointment three different days, and homeschool group was our usual Thursday. Needless to say we didn’t get much schoolwork done. At least Buttercup had a week off from her dog walking job.
This week is a better. I’m feeling somewhat better–round two of antibiotic and predisone. Renewed Moms Ministry is on Fall Break, so no Thursday classes, and Prince Charming has no classes today or tomorrow, so he took Buttercup to walk dogs. This week will be pretty laid back.
Since I do have a laid back week. I decided to make this Homemaker’s Mentor Week. I was blessed to receive a review copy of this CD a few weeks ago. It’s filled with quality lessons on how to keep a home. So many in fact, that you could create your own home economics curriculum with ease. The hardest part would be selecting where to start. This program has really motivated me to work on my own home.
The Homemaker’s Mentor is a collection of instructions. Most everything you need to know about how to manage a home, cook, sew, host a dinner party, and be ready for certain emergencies, this is a must-have set. In a lot of ways reading through these ideas made me miss my grandmas. These are the things they taught me as I was perched on the kitchen step stool. These are also things I want to teach Buttercup. Timeless, practical lessons that will never be unnecessary.
By now you’re wondering about specific lessons. There were so many–over 110–that I won’t go into detail. You can read the other blogs at The Bronze Bow to see what other reviewers selected as their projects for from the varied items in the collection. I selected two items to work on this week. First is a recipe, and the second in getting closets in order. Tomorrow I’ll post the results of Cheesy Skillet Spaghetti. It made the house smell so wonderful, and the family really liked it.
The second item I selected to focus on is my closets, or my master closet in particular. I have so many clothes hanging there that are too big, and I need to get them out. So cleaning out my master closet was a great choice. If I have time I’ll move on to the “nightmare” closet in the hall. It’s the one where I hope nothing falls out when you open the door. I hate that oddball-shaped hole under the stairs, but I have some great ideas for taming it I got from The Homemaker’s Mentor. I wanted to do the Kitchen Sparkle lesson, but it’s a two week process. In my condition, I didn’t feel that was a practical choice. I’ll wait until next month or so before it gets too cold.
